Hi, my name is Lilly Markusch and I am 21 years old. I have had a passion and love for distance running and track ever since I can remember. As a decorated track and cross country athlete in high school I decided to follow my dreams and continue my running career at the University of Nebraska where I competed in the 6k, mile, 3200m and steeple. Unfortunately, my dreams were cut short when I was in an accident just before the start of indoor track season my sophomore year. I shattered both my left tibia and fibula and had a rod and screws placed in. Things, however, took a turn for the worst and a few days later I was experiencing excruciating pain and was later taken to the ER due to acute compartment syndrome. After multiple surgeries and a few weeks in the hospital, the doctors were able to save me from amputation but they were forced to remove multiple dead muscles in my left leg. They told me I would never be able to compete or run at the D1 level again and was left with permanent foot drop, walking complications and a broken dream. Now, after two years of rehab and training I'm back to running and found this amazing community online. I would love to be a TeamUp member and get back to racing and doing the thing I love with such a supportive and courageous group of people 🙂
